Introduction

This project involved the complete redesign and build of a large, private residential garden in Bearsden. With structural issues in the existing landscape, the garden required extensive remedial work, careful strategic planning, as well as planning permission approval from the local council before construction could begin. The design was developed in line with the character and style of the property, ensuring the new garden felt like a natural extension of the home. A new multi-level layout seamlessly connected the upper and lower areas through stepped access, landscaped slopes, and modern retaining walls. A Japanese-inspired planting scheme, premium sandstone paving, and bespoke features such as a glass balustrade created a striking, functional, and low-maintenance outdoor space.

 
 

Our Design Process

  • Removal of old, failing retaining walls and replacement with modern rendered retaining structures.
  • New main patio, lower terrace, and connecting pathways in high-quality sandstone paving.
  • Replacement of unsafe, uneven steps with new stepped access linking garden levels.
  • Creation of sloped beds with structural retaining walls for planting and erosion control.
  • Japanese-style planting design for year-round colour, structure, and seasonal interest.
  • Installation of a glass balustrade for safety and modern visual appeal.
  • Redesigned lower garden with a new patio and raised beds for entertaining and relaxation.
  • Additional landscaped area for a future garden room with direct stepped garden access.
  • Planning permission obtained and works executed to meet all regulations.
  • Large-scale transformation of a well-enclosed, private garden into a modern, functional space that complements the home’s character.
